I had lunch with a friend of mine who I met at work. It was her first job out of college, and she moved to the Seattle area from Miami for a tech sales job. The last time we had seen each other was in the fall when I moved into my new place on the hill with the good view. The last time I had seen her she had been single and had lived in the Seattle area for only a few weeks. I had a hard time meeting people when I first moved to Seattle, so I was curious how she was doing. She told me, “I met a guy”. I wanted to hear the story, so I asked how they met. She had said she had used dating sites in the past with limited success so she decided when she moved here if she wanted to meet more people, she should get a puppy. She describes herself as an extrovert by nature but that it is still hard to meet people when you first move somewhere.

She said that she got a puppy to meet people, “Everyone loves puppies”. She said that if she got a puppy, people would come up to her to talk about the puppy. I wanted to hear the details of how she met the guy, who now has officially been moved into boyfriend status. “We met walking our dogs”, she said with a smile. She told me the story of how they kept running into each other on their daily dog walks and started talking, which turned to hanging out and then dating and now they are a couple. I know tons of people that have found “Their Person” on dating sites, and just as many that have vowed to never subject themselves to the process of sifting through the dating site pool.
